Keith P. Kern was featured on Oprah and in Newsday in the aftermath of 9/11, for his selfless efforts in "adopting" the shattered families of four of his fallen FDNY brothers. Keith did not seek the attention – he was not comfortable with it – but the story of the tremendous support he provided to those families in need was compelling.

Today, Keith’s own family is in need.

On May 30, 2006, Keith passed away suddenly at the age of 48, leaving behind a wife, five children and two grandchildren. Keith also left behind an unfinished home, which he was in the process of building himself for his extended family at the time of his passing.

In our grief, Keith’s brother firefighters in the Seaford Fire Department (where Keith was a dedicated volunteer) and the FDNY struggled with how to best move forward after our devastating loss.

We came to realize that Keith himself had given us the blueprint on how to move forward, with the tireless devotion and support he provided to the families of his fallen brothers since 9/11. And with "Keith’s Blueprint" in our hearts, we join together in our mission.
