Our Mission

The original goal of Keith's Blueprint was to complete and help pay for the home that Keith was building and financing for his extended family. In 2005, Keith had completely razed the small ranch-style home in Seaford, New York, in which he and his wife Valerie had raised their family since 1982. In its place, he was building his dream home, one in which his older children would live, and his younger children and grandchildren would be raised. Keith's untimely death came mid-project, on an evening when he was working alone in the home.

A widespread misconception is that the families of fallen firefighters end up with a huge benefits windfall. Keith's modest insurance and benefits did not come close to addressing the financing of the new Kern home – a financial burden that Keith was just beginning to address himself by working full time in the construction/home improvement industry since his retirement from the FDNY in 2003.

To complete the Kern family home, Keith's brothers from the FDNY and the SFD, as well as family and friends, provided "muscle" and labor, volunteering as painters, carpenters, landscapers – whatever we could do, we did.

Thanks to the support and efforts of so many wonderful people in the Seaford community and beyond, in December 2006 Keith's family moved into the finished home.

Today, the goal of Keith's Blueprint is to help defray the costs for the continuing education of Keith's beautiful daughters Ashley, Brianne and Jordan. On May 12, 2008, we'll be hosting the Second Annual Keith P. Kern Memorial Golf Outing at the Stonebridge Country Club in Smithtown.

Please consider joining us for a great day, for a great cause. If you can't make it to the outing, but would like to make a contribution to our efforts, you can do so here.
